Dust is one of the main hazards facing on-site workers. A recent NHEWS Survey estimated that 39% of Australians are exposed to airborne hazards that can result in lung diseases such as Asthma, Cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD).
Many construction jobs generate large amounts of dust, such as cutting, chasing, grinding, demolition, woodwork, and masonry. During these works, workers are in extremely close proximity to the dust produced and, if no control measures are in place, will inhale the hazardous particles without even realising. Therefore, offering no solution to dust on site can lead to serious health problems.
Dust particles, come in a range of sizes, but smaller respirable dust particles are so fine that they can settle deep within the lungs. This can then cause serious health problems, such as lung cancer, COPD, asbestosis, silicosis and asthma. Unfortunately, these diseases may only become evident after a long period of time and when it is too late for treatment to have any effect. Therefore, an effective dust control system on site is vital. Currently, Australia is experiencing an alarming rise in silicosis cases and the government has established a National Dust Disease Taskforce as a result. The NDDT is working to develop a national approach to the prevention, early identification, control and management of dust diseases, whilst raising awareness of respirable health across Australia.
A proven methodology, devised by the RVT Group, to ensure effective control of all on-site health hazards.
A vast amount of dust is created from wall chasing, tile cutting, stone cutting, sanding wood, drilling, abrasive blasting and demolition work. Contractors therefore need to use temporary dust controls to ensure that they are not only protecting themselves, but others working in close proximity.
Failure to install adequate dust control will leave workers exposed to health problems such as; heart disease, lung disease, respiratory problems, asbestosis, silicosis and cancer. The contractor could also risk prosecution if they fail to comply with HSE regulations.
RVT believe that effective dust control can be managed in three easy steps;
Dust extraction and filtration units are the ideal solutions to hazardous dust on site. By positioning the capture hood as close as possible to the dust-generating activity, you allow the dust to be captured, contained and controlled, reducing the dangerous particles in the atmosphere and preventing migration outside of the work zone.
RVT offer a wide range of dust control solutions which are available to hire.
RVT's powerful Dustex dust control solutions enable you to capture dust at source and extract it safely through multiple filter media
Many of the Dustex dust control units can be connected to simple ductwork systems serving multiple machines over long distances
A number of our Dustex products are certified for fine filtration and hazardous dust types, including mineral dust
RVT's multi-purpose vacuums come with a variety of accessories and on-tool extraction functions, making it easier to clean up on site
From small individual work stations to large scale wall blasting, RVT have a range of suitable dust control solutions
Washable cartridge filters ensure a filter system with a long service life and low operating costs
We offer an optional Hepa filter to remove 99.9% of air pollutants, making our products ideal for sensitive environments
All RVT products are fully approved to European standards and hold third party certification
“This is the first time I have done business with the RVT Group and based on the experience it will not be the last if I need to hire portable dust extraction equipment again.”
